$10 million conference for Women in Engineering coming to PCC

The world's largest conference of female engineers will land in Philadelphia in October, and bring an estimated economic impact of at least $10.1 million with it. The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau expects 5,000 attendees at the Society of Women Engineers, or SWE, annual conference at the Pennsylvania Convention Center Oct. 26.

Pennsylvania Convention Center contributes to rise in hospitality jobs

The city’s hospitality industry had about 72,800 jobs in June, an increase of nearly 5 percent over last year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The preliminary figures represent the most jobs held in hospitality in a single month in more than a decade.

Road to the White House leads through Philadelphia

Philadelphia is expected to make history as it welcomes thousands of visitors for one of the nation’s most significant political conventions. An estimated 50,000 attendees are expected to turn out for the Democratic National Convention, which will be held Monday through Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center and the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Wizard World Comic Con returns to Pennsylvania Convention Center

Pop culture fans will be able to meet their heroes at Wizard World Comic Con Philadelphia that gets underway Thursday afternoon at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Jason David Frank, who played Tommy, the Green Ranger, from the Power Rangers television show, is among dozens of celebrities in town. He will be at Comic  Con all four days, posing for pictures with fans and signing autographs.

Convention Center to dedicate theater to Michael Nutter

Pennsylvania Convention Center officials will name the facility's multipurpose theater after the former mayor of Philadelphia, whose second term ended in January. The center repurposed Room 114, a former lecture hall at the southeast corner of 13th and Race Streets, to make way for the Michael A. Nutter Theatre.
