Daring Women

Daring Women is about the women who helped to lead the abolitionist movement in it's early stages. This includes women like Lucretia Mott, Sarah Mapps Douglass, the Grimke sisters, Harriet Forten Purvis, etc. Their actions are made all the more impressive when you consider the societal expectations of the time concerning race and gender, and the federal laws, like the Fugitive Slave Act, that existed to thwart their efforts--a David and Goliath kind of story.

This event is the premiere screening of our new feature-length documentary and celebration of History Making Productions' 10th Anniversary.

INFORMATION: https://www.asla.org/annualmeetingandexpo.aspx

Founded in 1899, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) is the professional association for landscape architects in the United States, representing more than 15,000 members. The Society’s mission is to advance landscape architecture through advocacy, communication, education, and fellowship. Sustainability has been part of ASLA’s mission since its founding and is an overarching value that informs all of the Society’s programs and operations. ASLA has been a leader in demonstrating the benefits of green infrastructure and resilient development practices through the creation of its own green roof, co-development of the SITES® Rating System, and the creation of publicly-accessible sustainable design resources.
Landscape architects analyze, plan, design, manage, and nurture the built and natural environments. Landscape architects have a significant impact on communities and quality of life. They design parks, campuses, streetscapes, trails, plazas, and other projects that help define a community.

Landscape architecture services in the U.S. are valued at $2.3 billion per year, according to the National Endowment for the Arts. The latest data, which cover up to 2012, show landscape architecture services accounted for 14 percent of total architectural services. Residential design is the largest market sector. Most of that work consists of single-family homes, but also includes multi-family and retirement communities.

Some 24,700 employees work in the landscape architecture field in the United States, according to U.S. Department of Labor in 2016; this is a growth of about 10 percent from 2014, the previous count.

Approximately 16,400 landscape architects are licensed in the United States. Licensure is required in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Landscape architecture is one of only around 60 professions to be licensed in all 50 states.
