Shammy Jones earned The Philadelphia Tribune’s 2020 Women of Achievement Award and the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2020 Women of Distinction Award

Philadelphia, PA--Shamyune “Shammy” Jones, Vice President & General Counsel of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority (PCCA), has earned two honors in recent weeks recognizing her significant contributions to the organization, the Philadelphia region’s hospitality industry, and the local community. Jones had the unique honor of being named a recipient of both The Philadelphia Tribune’s 2020 Women of Achievement Award and the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2020 Women of Distinction Award.

During her nearly 20 years of service working for the PCCA, Jones has guided and counseled the Center’s team through the Great Recession of 2008, several regime changes, and a complete revamp of the operating and management structure of the Pennsylvania Convention Center.  She is currently a source of counsel for the President & CEO and management team and they work together to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts on the meeting and convention industry. Jones has also shown a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through a number of initiatives, such as spearheading the development of robust vendor systems to engage the participation of diverse businesses in contract work with the Center.

“Throughout her time with the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Shammy Jones has repeatedly demonstrated incredible leadership, integrity, and work ethic,” said Gregory Fox, Chair of the PCCA Board of Directors. “We are fortunate to have a professional with Shammy’s character and commitment as part of our team. Over the years, Shammy’s contributions to the convention center and the region’s hospitality industry have been invaluable and it is gratifying to see her significant impact and leadership qualities receive well-deserved public recognition.”

“I’ve known Shammy for over 12 years, her dedication to the Center’s success, her commitment to mentorship, and her service to the community are bar to none. It’s no surprise she has earned these prestigious accolades and I couldn’t be more proud of her,” shared Marian Tasco, Co-Chair of the PCCA Board and former Philadelphia City Council member.

As Vice President and General Counsel, Shammy is responsible for managing the PCCA’s legal matters, including contract negotiations, insurance and risk management issues, compliance issues with the Board of Directors and the organization, and all human resources matters.  Shammy works closely with PCCA’s President and CEO, the Board of Directors, outside counsel, insurance brokers, and all internal departments within the PCCA and its management company ASM Global. Shammy is also an officer of the PCCA, serving as the Secretary for the Board of Directors.

Jones is a graduate of the Core Class for Leadership Philadelphia - the premier community leadership organization in our region.  As the de facto head of Human Resources at PCCA, Jones has made mentorship one of her top priorities, guiding and preparing multiple generations of women and men for success and career advancement through her counsel and assistance in their professional development.

Jones is active in a number of local organizations, as well.  She serves as the Secretary and a Board of Director for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Philadelphia and recently became a member of the Board of Directors for Philadelphia Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC).  Jones is also a member of the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia and former member of its Advisory Board. In addition, Shammy serves as an alumni interviewer for perspective students who have applied for admission to her alma mater, Dartmouth College.
