National Jazz Festival

The inagural National Jazz Festival will take place on February 15th, 2020 in historic Philadelphia! We are excited and privledged to be hosting some of the best high school and middle school jazz musicians in the country. The National Jazz Festival will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Center City Philadelphia!

The National Jazz Festival was created by instrumental and vocal jazz directors, caring parents, supportive jazz musicians, and avid jazz supporters in an effort to fill the void of a lack of a major national jazz festival with an educational philosophy. Upon the cancellation of other festivals, the National Jazz Festival team saw a need to create an event that allows thousands of students to continue to share their talents and hard work with their peers from around the country. The festival executive committee is being led by Joe Bongiovi. Joe is the director of the Philadelphia Jazz Orchestra and is also the band director at Princeton High School in New Jersey. Joe is currently the President of the New Jersey Association Of Jazz Educators (NJAJE). We are fortunate to have Joe’s extensive high school jazz festival experience and his ties to Philadelphia to help launch this festival.

What the National Jazz Festival has to offer:

(visit our “Events” page for detailed information)

– Vocal Large Ensemble, Small Ensemble, & A Cappella Categories

– “Pop-Cappella” Category for your pop-based a cappella groups

We hope that you can attend the National Jazz Festival this February! If you have any questions or desire more information, please respond to this email or email us anytime at: [email protected]

We are excited that the city of Philadelphia has welcomed this new endeavor with open arms and can’t wait to host the National Jazz Festival and invite you to explore historic Philadelphia and the thriving music scene in Philly.

As for competing, each ensemble has the opportunity perform in either a competitive or non-competitive class. There are no ratings, however at the end of the evening the top 4 ensembles in each division will be announced. A full recap sheet of competitive groups will be released at the end of the festival. Non-competitive groups will obviously not be included on that recap.

To enhance your NJF experience, we will be announcing some optional added events during the weekend in Philadelphia! This info will be coming soon!

Pink Invitational - Unite for HER

COMPETITION DATES: February 21-23, 2020
LOCATION: Pennsylvania Convention Center
GYMS: Halls D + E (2nd Level)
BOX OFFICE: Hall E Entrance (2nd Level)
VENDOR DISPALYS: Broad Street Atrium (1st Level)

INFORMATION: https://uniteforher.org/events/pink/

Each year over 3,500 gymnasts participate in the Pink Invitational and over 12,000 attendees gather in unity to honor and celebrate the lives of those touched by breast cancer. 100% of the net proceeds from the Pink Invitational go directly to caring for the physical and emotional needs of breast cancer patients in the local and gymnastics communities through Unite for HER nonprofit organization.
When long-time gymnastics coach Sue Weldon was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, she began searching for information on therapies that would complement the medical treatments she was receiving. What she discovered was a lack of easily accessible resources on topics like nutrition, acupuncture, massage, yoga, counseling and other ways for breast cancer patients to enhance their wellness and care for their emotional, spiritual, and physical needs.
In 2009 Sue created the Pink Invitational~Gymnasts Unite fundraising and outreach event with the support and partnership of her gym AJS Pancott Gymnastics. Sue recognized that gymnastics events offer a unique opportunity to encourage breast health awareness among girls and young women while raising funds in support of women affected by breast cancer and their families.
The Pink Invitational unites gymnasts in a USA- sanctioned meet where athletes compete in a sport they love while supporting breast cancer initiatives and learning about the importance of lifelong wellness. Proceeds from the event enabled Sue to found Unite for HER non-profit organization later that year.
Unite for HER was created to bridge the gap for breast cancer patients, funding and delivering complementary therapies to women affected by breast cancer at no cost to the participant. Each year Unite for HER raises funds to support the Wellness Program and support women affected by breast cancer in Philadelphia region and nationwide through the HER care box program. The Pink Invitational is Unite for HER’s largest fundraising event, supporting over 60 percent of the organization’s programming and outreach.

The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) is a professional society of clinicians, scientists, and other healthcare professionals who are interested in Parkinson's disease, related neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders, hyperkinetic movement disorders, and abnormalities in muscle tone and motor control.
In recent years, there has been tremendous growth in new diagnostic information, pharmacological and neurosurgical treatments for movement disorders, as well as a greater understanding of impaired motor control function. MDS offers you and your patients an essential link to this knowledge.
In 1985, the Movement Disorder Society was founded on the initiative of Professors Stanley Fahn and C. Unite for HER founder Sue Weldon, a breast cancer survivor and long-time gymnastics coach, recognized that gymnastics events offer a unique opportunity to encourage breast health awareness among girls and young women while raising funds in support of women affected by breast cancer and their families.
In 2009, with the support and partnership of AJS Pancott Gymnastics, Unite for HER created the Pink Invitational~Gymnasts Unite fundraising and outreach event. The Pink Invitational unites gymnasts in a USA- sanctioned meet where athletes compete in a sport they love while supporting breast cancer initiatives and learning about the importance of lifelong wellness.
Each year over 3,000 gymnasts participate and 10,000 attendees gather in unity to honor and celebrate the lives of those touched by the disease. Be assured that 100% of the net proceeds from this meet go directly to caring for the physical and emotional needs of breast cancer patients in the local and gymnastics communities. The Pink Invitational is a three-day gymnastics competition featuring over 3,000 athletes from local and national USA Gymnastics teams, as well as a Friday night NCAA college meet. What makes the Pink Invitational a unique and inspiring experience is that these gymnasts find new and fun ways to promote solidarity and display their determination to care for women and families affected by breast cancer. All participants receive and compete in a special, one-of-a-kind competition leotard created by GK Elite Sportswear, sending a message of unity, hope and love.
