5/22/2008 - TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURE OF BROAD STREET

Temporary, Full Closure beginning Friday, May 23 through Saturday, May 31

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Due to public safety considerations, Broad Street will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 5:00 AM on Friday, May 23 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 31. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the west side of Broad St. The temporary, full closure is scheduled as follows:


1/2/2008 - Convention Center Reaches Agreement with Stagehands during Late Holiday Night Bargaining Session

PHILADELPHIA … January 2, 2008 – A new labor pact reached at 1:30 a.m. this morning allows the soon-to-be expanded Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC) to be more customer-friendly and economically competitive.

Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority, CEO, Albert Mezzaroba heralded the agreement with the Stage Hands of Local 8 as "another giant step in the right direction for the PCC and its partnership with the workers who help us make this a great facility.”


12/4/2007 - BERNARD CARPENTER NAMED NATIONAL SALES MANAGER OF THE PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION CENTER

Philadelphia, PA (November 13, 2007) – Bernard Carpenter was recently named National Sales Manager of the Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC). Carpenter, a 20-year veteran in the hospitality industry, will be responsible for booking multicultural, religious, social, military, and fraternal events.

“We are delighted to have Bernard as part of the PCC sales team,” said Stephanie Boyd, PCC Director of Sales & Marketing. “His years of experience within the hospitality industry will enhance our sales and customer service opportunities.”


12/3/2007 - LOIS MCLAUGHLIN RETURNS TO THE PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION CENTER AS DIRECTOR OF EVENT SERVICES

Philadelphia…November 7, 2007…Lois McLaughlin returns to the Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC) as Director of Event Services just as Convention Center expansion gets underway. McLaughlin, an industry professional, served on the inaugural event services team when the PCC opened in 1993. She is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Event Services Department.

Hundreds of Supporters on Hand in Philadelphia to Witness the Beginning of New Economic Growth for the City, State, and Region

PHILADELPHIA, PA…August 15, 2007…A bigger future for Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia region was commemorated today when the first building in the footprint of the Pennsylvania Convention Center expansion was demolished. Representatives from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority, and Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau spoke prior to the demolition on the important role that the larger convention center will play for years to come in creating new jobs and building a stronger economy in the region and the state.

Philadelphia…August 3, 2007…Michael Ross, CEH, Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC), Director of Environmental Services & Safety, was appointed President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the International Executive Housekeeping Association (PCIEHA), in July, after serving as Vice President since 2005.

5/24/2007 - THOMAS “BUCK” RILEY ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF THE PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION CENTER AUTHORITY

PHILADELPHIA…May 23, 2007…The Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority Board today elected Thomas “Buck” Riley as its new Chairman. Riley replaces Michael Nutter who resigned in April to focus on his run for Mayor of Philadelphia. Riley has served as Vice Chairman of the Convention Center Board since 2003 in its efforts to make the Convention Center a premier international convention destination and to partner with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in an expansion project


5/3/2007 - SURVEY SAYS: PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION CENTER SCORES WELL IN EXHIBITOR SATISFACTION

Philadelphia…February 7, 2007…The Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC) scored a 3.9 out of 5.0 in a recent exhibitor satisfaction survey – outranking competing convention centers on the East Coast. The survey of 643 exhibitors over 14 groups, conducted by Track Group, showed an overall favorable impression of the building in areas ranging from friendliness and productivity to labor and costs.


2/8/2007 - Guise mends convention center fences

If the Pennsylvania Convention Center has been slow to start its long-planned expansion, no one is blaming its chief operating officer.

Dittie F. Guise, who was hired in 2004, said she is focused on keeping the center's customers happy. In 28 months on the job, Guise has confronted union members about their behavior, done follow-up interviews with exhibitors and tried to mend relations with meeting planners.


10/17/2006 - PHILADELPHIAN GAY ALSTON, FIRST RECIPIENT OF THE FIRST UNSUNG HERO AWARD

Award presented by International Executive Housekeepers Association’s Philadelphia, PA (October 2006) Gay Alston is the first recipient of the International Executive Housekeepers Association’s (I.E.H.A.) 2006 Unsung Facility Hero Award. Alston, an employee of ABM Building Services contracted by the Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC), is one of the diligent cleaners responsible for the maintenance of the PCC. She has worked full-time at the Convention Center since its opening in 1993.


9/19/2006 - DITTIE F. GUISE HONORED IN MADISON WHO’s WHO OF PROFESSIONALS

Ms. Dittie F. Guise, Chief Operating Officer of the Pennsylvania Convention Center has been named in the 2006-2007 edition of the Madison's Who's Who of Professionals. This honor is bestowed on individuals who have demonstrated exemplary achievement and distinguished contributions to the business community.


9/19/2006 - THE PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION CENTER INITIATES NEW INCENTIVE PROGRAM TO RECOGNIZE SECURITY SERVICES GUARDS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SERVICE

The Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC) in conjunction with American Commercial Security Services (ACSS) created a quarterly incentive program in an effort to show appreciation for the outstanding service displayed by ACSS guards who work in the PCC. Florence King and Elaine Palmer are the first ACSS employees to receive this honor.

Dittie F. Guise has been named to the boards of the Philadelphia Hospitality, Inc. and The Forum of Executive Women. Guise is the Chief Operating Officer of the Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC).


7/25/2006 - Fact Sheet: Pennsylvania Convention Center Fast Fun Facts

2,914 are the number windows in the PCC that is equal to 364 row homes with six windows each, and it takes approximately two months to clean them.


6/7/2006 - THE PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION CENTER INSTITUTES A NEW AUDIO/VISUAL BUYING STRUCTURE

“Our Customers asked for reduced costs, and we have delivered.” Philadelphia (June 2006)…Effective immediately, Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC) and Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PCVB) customers, and audio/visual providers can purchase all labor for audio/visual services from the PCC.


5/7/2006 - ELIZABETH HUDOCK JOINS THE PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION AS NATIONAL SALES MANAGER

Elizabeth Hudock was recently named as National Sales Manager at the Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC) where she will be primarily responsible for the multicultural segment, as well as military, educational, religious, and fraternal meeting customers.


2/7/2006 - Doug Duennes Named Senior vice President of Facilities and Operations at the Pennsylvania Convention Center

Brings 30 Years of Experience to the Position Doug Duennes was recently named Senior Vice President of Facilities and Operations for the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Duennes, a 30-year veteran of facilities operations, will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the PCC, including maintenance and repair of the facility; security; and establishing and maintaining working relationships with contractors, government agencies and other related organizations.


1/8/2006 - Expansion of the Pennsylvania Convention Center is Underway

Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell recently presented a $16 million check to officials of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, kicking off the first monetary installment of the building’s expansion, which will nearly double its size. The multimillion-dollar check will cover routine expenses associated with initial phases of expansion, including architectural renderings, construction documents, property acquisition and the development of a finance plan, a business plan and an operating plan.


1/8/2006 - Pennsylvania Convention Center Offers High-Speed Internet Access to Customers

Enhancements to the building’s technology infrastructure now allow Internet access up to one Gigabit. This means faster downloading for attendees. The improvement makes the new system five-times faster than the previous system.
