The expansion of the Pennsylvania Convention Center is underway, but thanks to a horizontal expansion, conventions and tradeshows booked within the current center should not be disrupted.

The Convention Center’s expansion will increase meeting and exhibit space by nearly 60 percent, allowing two conventions to hold their meetings simultaneously. The same holds true now, just the one convention is expansion. There is only one wall, the western most wall, that will need to be reconfigured once the expanded and current center connect. A temporary wall will be put in place to minimize potential noise caused by expansion.

Both the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau and Pennsylvania Convention Center sales and services teams are briefed regularly from the construction management teams and will work with individual clients on any unforeseen issues. The Expanded Pennsylvania Convention Center will have:

  • 1 million sq. ft. of saleable space.
  • The largest contiguous exhibit space in the Northeast (541,000 sq. ft.).
  • The largest convention center ballroom on the East Coast (60,000 sq. ft.).
  • The ability to host large tradeshows or two major conventions simultaneously.

The expansion of the Pennsylvania Convention Center will result in:

  • More than 280,000 additional room nights and more than $140 million in
    economic impact annually.
  • 2,000 hospitality-related jobs equaling more than $150 million in economic impact.
